If you have received an official letter of acceptance from RIT/NTID, please refer to the following information to assist you as you prepare to become an RIT/NTID student.

1. Pay $300 Tuition Deposit

Once we receive your deposit, a packet of forms related to several items listed here will be sent to you to complete. All forms can be submitted online or downloaded and printed for your convenience.

Credit card holders may now pay their deposit on-line.

Students who will be financially supported by their state vocational rehabilitation agency may have their deposit deferred to their quarter tuition bill. Please have the VR counselor send a voucher to RIT Student Financial Services, 25 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, NY 14623 or fax to: 585-474-5307.

2. Set up your RIT Computer Account

Activate your account now. With your RIT computer account you become a part of RIT's online community. You can set up your RIT e-mail account or e-mail forwarding. All official communication about your housing assignment and billing will only be sent via the RIT computer account. Sign up for yours today!

What’s my University ID (UID)?  To find your UID, after setting up your RIT computer account go to the myRIT Web Portal at my.RIT.edu.  Once you sign in, your name and University ID appear on the top left of the screen. If you need help contact the ITS Help Desk at (585) 475-4357 voice or (585) 475-2810 TTY.

3. Return the housing contract

In order to receive an RIT housing assignment, you must complete a housing contract. Housing contracts are online at http://housing.rit.edu. A paper copy of the housing contract is enclosed with your offer of admission if you are unable to apply online. Please do not submit a paper copy of the housing contract if you have applied online.

All first-year students (including transfers) are required to live in campus residence halls and are guaranteed housing. Our residence hall assignments are made on a first-come, first-served basis, depending upon the postmark date of your admission deposit and the submission date of your housing contract. Students residing in a residence hall must select a meal plan via the question on the housing contract. If you have any questions about your housing assignment, please contact the Housing Operations office at 585-475-2572 (voice) or 585-475-2113 (TTY) or visit Housing Operations online.

Your housing assignment and roommate information will be available online in early August (for fall entry) at http://housing.rit.edu.

4. Apply for Financial Aid

(U.S. Students Only)

  • Obtain a Personal Identification Number (PIN). The PIN is your federal electronic signature for completing the FAFSA online. Simply log on and request a PIN. In most cases, your parent will also need to obtain a PIN and sign your FAFSA.
  • To receive the best consideration for financial aid, complete the FAFSA and submit it to the federal processor by March 1 for entering freshmen or by March 15 for transfer students. You may complete the FAFSA online or use a paper application. Have results sent to RIT by including our federal student code, which is 002806.
  • You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) within a few weeks. It will be sent to the e-mail address you listed on your FAFSA. Review your SAR and submit any corrections to the Federal Processor. New York State residents can also apply for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) by completing the TAP on the web application or a preprinted Express TAP Application. If you are not a resident of New York State, check with your state scholarship agency to see if you can use your state scholarship or grant at RIT.
  • Award letters are mailed beginning March 15 and will continue based on the date the FAFSA was received by RIT. If you have any questions about filling out the forms, please call the RIT Financial Aid Office at 585-475-2186 (voice) or 585-475-6909 (TTY) or email ntidaid@rit.edu.

5. Apply for Vocational Rehabilitation

6. Apply for OSAP

(Canadian Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students Only)

The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) assists students from the Canadian province of Ontario. If you have not yet applied for OSAP, please do so now. The process can take several weeks. You may contact Gerry Vibert at gerry.vibert@osap.gov.on.ca.

You need to submit a copy of the Notice of Assessment before your 1-20 form will be sent.

If you are from another Canadian province, please contact your local Vocational Rehabilitation Office.

8. Communication & Access Services

(Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Students Only)
